Mayoralty. —We understand that a large number of citizens have requested the Hon James Paterson to offer himself for election as Mayor.
Princess Theatre.—We would remind our readers that the complimentary benefit to the champion pedestrians, takes place thin evening. The programme is sufficiently attractive to draw a good house. Dredging.—The success of the dredging on the Shotover is making a sensation in the Lakes district ; and orders for new dredges are pouring in on the local builders. Close upon 700 ozs. were obtained last week by the three dredges now at work on the river. City Youths’ Association. — We are indebted to a correspondent for the following:—That grand idea “Mutual Improvement,” seems in this City to meet the approval of all classes and all ages. Last evening the City Youths’ Association made their debut in Milton Hall, Stuart street, by a public entertainment, consisting of recitations, dialogues, &c. If all the youths of Dunedin wore as intent upon progression as that association appears to be, there would soon be an end to “larrikmism.” It is a pity that parents do nob induce their sons to join some such societies, if tiny only did, many of those young lads about whom the public have lately complained so much, would probably become ornaments to society. A meeting of Directors of the Caledonian Society of Otago will he held at Wain’s Hotel to-morrow (Thursday) evening at 8.30. A special meeting of the Scottish Company wilt bg hold, after inspection, tomorrow (Thursday) evening, on business of importance. W,E remind our readers that Mr. jind Mrs. T. White's Concert will take place to-mqrrpw evening at the Masonic Hall. The programme is excellent, and the well-known musical abilities of Mr. and Mrs. White, will, we hope, have the effect of drawing a full house.
The half-yearly meeting of the Loyal Dunedin Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., will be held in the Lodge room, to-morrow (Thursday) evening, at 7 30.
