PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.
Yesterday. There was very little real business done at the evening sitting. The Hon. J. M‘Lean’s motion, instructing the Government to place itself in communication with the Canterbury authorities, with a view to obtain the removal of tho restrictions on sheep crossing the Waitaki, and failing that that the provisions of tho Diseased Cattle Aets,Jlß6l and 1865, in respect of the introduction of cattle from Canterbury, should be put in force, was carried by 21 to 7. Mr Sumpter’s motion, that unexpended votes should bo revoted and take precedence over any sums to be voted, was negatived A sharp discussion took place on MrM'Kenzies motion for a survey of a railway line from Waikouaiti to Dunedin, which was carried by 27 to 10 ; and Mjr Cutten’s motion, requesting the Government to mako another appeal to the Assembly to validate the proclamation of the Stuart and Traquair Hundreds, and that the Assembly be applied to recoup any loss incurred by the Province owing to the defective proclamation, was carried.
