Percival, late paymaster in the Armed Constabulary, was charged with wilful and corrupt perjury between himself and the Bank of New Zealand, and was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment with hard labour. A subscription has been raised to convey his wife and family to England. Margaret M ‘Carthy’s child, 8 months old, was drowned in a tub on the 7th inst. During a heavy gale at the Thames on WedneschTy a boatman was drowned. Several Auckland merchants had a narrow escape, but were picked up by the steamer Lady Bowen, after being several hours in an open boat. The are still turning out well. Another dividend was declared of £l2 to-day. The Thames Company declared a dividend of L2. The yield for the next fortnight is expected to be 20,000 ozs. Ollier claims arc turning out well. Alburnias are selling at LI 4.
