THE FLYING SQUIŔEL.

To the Editor. Sir—l was rather astonished to observe in your issue of Saturday evening last, a statement copied from the Ouvuiru 'J hues, to the effect '‘that during the forced trip of the Fly ng Squirrel to sea, owing to the late gale, the crew were so destitute of provisions as to he tonipellod to devour their own cat aval dog.” Kow, Sir, I wish to flatly contradict tins, and to state, for the benefit of the ediior of that public,at'cii, that we had an abundance to spare of both provisions and water ; and so far from having to paitake of stewed “ cat or dog,” wc had iicihcr of these animals on hoard

In conclusion, I would advise the Editor of the Onnmru Times in future to satisfy himself of the truth of such statements before he allows them tc be inserted in his newspaper. Apologising for occupying ao much of your valuable space, I am, &c., George Campbell, Master ketch Flying Squirrel. Dunedin, June 5.
