(from oreville’s telegram company, reuter's agents.) Tauranga, June 1. The new volunteer rifle corps paraded yesterday under Captain Morris. It is comprised principally of veteran soldiers and was a great success. The telegraph extension is proceeding satisfactorily. Mr. Commissioner Clarke and Mr. Hamlin, R.M. proceeded inland yesterday on very important business. The Lord Ashley arrived at the Heads at 9 o’clock this morning, landed the mails and passengers and steamed off immediately for Napier. Nelson, June 2. There are no particulars of the loss of the Queen of the Thames, beyond the following :—“ On April 25 th there was a report in London, which is unconfirmed, that the steamer Queen of the Thames, from Melbourne for London, is lost, and many passengers drowned.” There is no additional news of in terest beyond that already telegraphed from Tauranga. The Phcebe left for tbo South today. Oamaro, June 2. A meeting on the railway question was held to-day, and a resolution in favor of immediate construction of the main trunk line between Waitaki and Mocraki port was adopted ; also urging the construction of branch lines to open up the Cave Valley and Awamoke districts.
