Taurakga, May 2G. Intimation has been received to,day, that the Government is bringing influence to bear on the Hau Bans, Te Hira having permitted the mail service to commence. There is great rejoicings here in consequence. The Caledonian claim expects another yield of 20,000 ozs. this week, and to declare another dividend of L4O, There is tremendous excitement in the share market; scrip of all kinds has risen ; the Alburina has struck a rich reef and taken out splendid specimens. The Nevada sailed with 90 passengers. Mitchell, M.P.C., has been convicted of selling grog without a license, and fined LlO. Invercargill, May 27. A meeting last night unanimously agreed to petition the Superintendent to incorporate the town. A survey has been held on the Lady Darling, Both cargo and hull are expected to be saved. The weather has moderated and today is fine. The Dunedin mail arrived last night, and the mailman reports that the rivers arc falling. The Lakes mail reports the Wakatipu road to be perfectly passable. The storm appears to have been more on the seaboard than inland. Port Chalmers, May 27. The Kangitoto reports speaking the ship Hclenslce off Moeraki. All well on board. Licut.-C'ol. Cargill, who arrived today by the Rangitoto, received a salute of 7 guns fired by the -Port Chalmers Volunteer Naval Brigade, under the command of Captain Robertson, from the battery at Observation Point. He I'eceived a similar honor from Goldie s battery. The union jack was also hoisted at the flagstaff’.
