MINING COMMISSION.
The following is a summary of to-day’s business :
A telegram was sent to the County Council of Westland, and one to the Suporluten dent of Nelson, to request co-operation in the Commissioners’ endeavours to obtain an enactment of the New Mining Statute more perfect and liberal than, the existing law. “ The Commission recommend a system of mortgages or heirs of mining property providing for registration in Warden’s Court. “ That holders of miner’s rights should bo allowed to cut timber on goldfields for mining and domes'ic pupases. “That rent payable under agricultural leases be reduced from 2s 6d to Is Gd per ere per annum. “ That objectors to issue of gold raining leases should lodge their objections in writing, without paying deposits as at present required. “ That no mining interest shall he forfeited by reason of the owner not holding a miner’s right, nor shall any person not holding a miner’s right he prevented from suing or being sued. “ That anyone mining or holding mining interest without being possessed of a miner’s right, shall be subject to a penalty not exceeding LlO. “ That in the event of one or more water races for mining purposes being taken through lands held under an agricultural lease, the holder shall be entitled to compensatlon, to be determined by arbitration, such compensation to be paid by Government, “That in all cases of absence of a shareholder his partner or partners may supply his place by a competent miner the absentee to be liable for reasonable wages. “ That Clause 7 of the regulations be incorporated in the new Act.
