MAYOR’S COURT.
Tins Day. (Before his Worship the Mayor.) DRUNKENNESS. John F. Brown, having been locked up since Saturday night, was discharged with a caution; Ambrose Taylor was fined ss; Jas. lb O’Flaherty, 10s ; Francis Igo and John Walsh, two Nevada seamen, forfeited the amount of their bail, 20s ; and Morris Duncan was mulcted in the sum of 40s. WHOLESALE THEFT. Henry Aitken pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a quantity of things, which, displayed on the floor of the Court, gave to it the appearance of a diminutive “old curios ty shop.” 'The stock comprised window sashes, axes, carpenters’ tools, clothing, tents, tins of kerosene, &c. It appeared from the evidence adduced that on the prisoner’s house being searched by Detective Farrell, concealed in different parts were found quantities of clothing; between two mattrasscs, and covered up in a blanket, the window sashes identified as Messrs Gibbs and Clayton’s property ; and a quantity of keys. From receipts found in his possession, it transpired that the prisoner’s right name was Simmonds. On the application of Sergeant Thompson, he was remanded for a week, to enable the police to make enquiries as to the unclaimed goods found in his possession, VAGRANCY. Annie Hamilton, alias Sims, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for having no visible lawful means of support. OFFENCES AGAINST THE BYE-LAWS, James Muir, allowing cattle to wander, •was fined l()s and costs. 'Jhe following cas s were dismissed on payment of costs :—David Hunter, no light over building material in the Octagon; Thomas Bathgate, no name on dray. OBSCENE LANGUAGE, The casee of Mary Mooney v. Margaret Foote and Emma Stentiford v, John Bates were dismissed.
