Stormbird sailed for Invercargill this forenoon. The s.B. Tairoa sailed for southern ports this afternoon. The s.s. Wellington, having been cleaned and painted, was this morning taken out of tbc Floating Dock, and, under the supervision of the Harbor Master, was swung at the Dolphin in Carey’s Bay, for the adjustment of her compasses; after which the Wellington was placed alongside the hulk Taomas and Henry, to receive coal preparatory to sailing to-morrow for northern ports. The Harbor Company’s steamers and small boats have been busily engaged to-day in conveying persons to and from the mail steamship Nevada. The inspection of this line ship is well worth the attention of the public, and must be highly satisfactory to those who avail themselves of the opportunity. 'ihe ps Wallace, which arrived from Oamaru lost night, brought intelligence that the steamer Pretty Jane dragged her anchors and went ashore at Kakanui during the gale on Monday night. The Jane struck on a pock, driving a hole in her bottom ; but the damage is of no consequence, as it will be repaired where the vessel now lies. Mr Darling, the Company’s engineer, has proceeded to the spot, and will superintend the repairs. The bs. Tararua, for Melbourne via the Bluff, w r as preparing to sail when our despatch left.
