Taranaki from Lyttelton and northern pors, arrived this forenoon. The topsab schooner, Fiery Cross, for Riverton, aid the fore and aft schooner, E linburgh, for Oamaru, sailed to-day, and anchored in the cross-channel. The new ketch, Jfiliza MVPhee, outward bound, was removed from Dunedin, and i now anchored at the port. The recent extraordinary fine weather, coupled with the absence oi westerly winds, has had rather a serious effect upon the navigation of the New River. Since Sunday last the upper pool has not been visited by a tide which came within 18 inches or two feet of the ordinary level The result is that two of the coasting steamers, the Maori and Storm Bird, have been detained at the Invercargill jetty since Monday. This delay is rather tantalizing, considering the quantity of freights to be had. —Southlmul 'Jim s, April 29.
