MAYOR’S COURT.
This Day, (Before His Worship the Mayor and John Gillies, Esq., P. M.) DRUNKENNESS. Robert Smith was lined ss. ; Peter Stobo and John Brady, 10s. each ; and Jane Procter. alias M ’Belli, an o’d offender, 40s. ora fortnight's imprisonment. indecency. George Carlyle was sentenced to 48 hours imprisonment for this offence. A runaway apprentice. George Miller, a very respectable looking young man, was charged with a breach of his contract with the New Zealand Meat Preserving Company, Kakanui. The accused was arrested on Saturday, by Constable Bevan, at the Green Island works, where he was employed as tinsmith. He admitted that he was the person named in the warrant, but denied that he was guilty of any breach of contract, which he alleges was a verbal and not a written one only terminable by a month’s notice. He was remanded to Camara, bail being allowed.
