DRAINAGE.

To the Editor

Sir—The importance of drainage to a city like Dunedin is one of most vital consequence, and I observe the Corporation have commenced to drain St, David street, by the

formation of a sewer, commencing from George street to the Water of Ltitli. Whether this operation is part of a great whole, or only an experiment to drain the Corporation property leased by a councillor, time will show. Now, sir, as money is being expended, and as Ihj ive an interest in Union street, I would like Mr liar lies to see to it, and let ns have our s wer also, else we will know the reason why at the next election. Let Mr Barnes and Mr Jack imitate Mr Thoneman in this good work. I am sure they arc equally ns indefatigable in their exertions and attendance - from the newspaper reports. Again, if this sewer is only an experiment, 1 think such expenditure won hi have been more wisely and judiciously expended on Frederick street, where all the sediment and refuse from a brewery stream dow'n, and in summer are sufficient to create an epidemic from the elHuvia and noxious smells which pervade the neighborhood. Trusting our two members, Mr Barnes and Mr Jack, will keep up their enthusiasm in looking after Leith Ward, I am, etc., Union street.
