(from oreyxlle’s telegram company, reuter’s agents.) Thames, April 17. [The following message was sent overland by private messenger from Greville’s agent] : The yield from the Caledonian Claim for the past fortnight was 14,000 ozs. A dividend of LI 3 per share has been declared. A piece of stone, weighing 21- cwt., and valued at L4OO, was taken out of the Caledonian last week. The Thames Company have declared a dividend of L2 for the fortnight. The Inverness Company have been taking out specimens of stone all the week, and shares have risen 7s in consequence. Tookeys arc selling at L 7 lbs. The Golden Crown yield for the week was 430 ozs. Other mines arc turning out very payable quantities, and the dividend list is now increasing. The overland route is still closed to the mailman, and no effort has been made-by Mr M‘Loan to re-open it or even discuss the matter with the Natives. The opening of the district for gold-mining is now looked to, and that will be the most effectual way of settling the matter. The Volunteers were inspected on Saturday by Colonel Harington, Dr Croke proposes establishing a nunnery here.
Tauuanga, April 21. Mr Brown, a settler here, ims arrived overland. Te Hira is still obstinate, and is with the rest of his followers at Ohinemuri. He forbids messengers, cither European or Native, passing through his territory. Mr Brown was compelled to return from Ohinemuri, and arrived at Ivati-kati 3 r esterday. A letter has been received here, stating that the Hauhaus threaten to obstruct the extension of the telegraph line hence to Kati-kati. The Tauranga Natives express their indignation at the proposed step. All the land through which the proposed lino passes, for a distance of twenty-five miles, belongs to the Government.
