The first blocks of concrete for the new dock works here were successfully cast this morning. Each weighs twenty tons.
Invercargill, April B.
The sale of the wreck of the Hindu took place on Saturday. The hull realised L 315 ; the cargo, L 340 ; and the gearing, etc., L 334. The attendance was good. The bidding depended entirely on Southland.
Wellington, April 1
In consequence of great and general pressure brought to hear upon the Government, the Registrar-General of Land has been directed to issue licences to land brokers. Mr Moorhouse will accordingly visit the chief towns of the Colony by the earliest opportunity, and starts for the Southern Provinces by the Luna on Monday.
