This Day. (Before his Worship the Mayor and E. M'Glashan, Esq., J.P.) THE ROW ON THE RACECOURSE. Wm Keppie was charge 1 with assaulting the police while in the execution of their duty. It appeared from the evidence that a fight commenced on the course about halfpast four o’clock yesterday' afternoon, Sergeant Thompson and a couple of constables went into the crowd to sep.aratc the combatants, and were immediately set upon by a number of men. The sergeant was knocked down and narrowly escaped being trampled on, while Constable Baxter was struck in the face with the buckle end of a leather belt by the prisoner. The Bench said they would mark their sense of the prisoner’s cowardly conduct by imposing a heavy penalty', viz., L 5 or 14 days’ hard labour. DRUNKENNESS. James Lyons and Angus Cameron were each lined ss. James O’Brien alias Jonathan Shell, was fined 10s and 40s or 14 days’ imprisonment, for assaulting Constable Bevan. REMANDS. James Lyons, charged with indecently assaulting one Susan King in High street last evening was remanded until to-morrow, the prosecutrix being too unwell to attend. William Christie was remanded to Boss. Westland, on a charge of obtaining a valuable security by moans of false pretences.
