The markets are quiet. In the hour trade sales have been made at LI4 to 1.14 10s Gd. Oats firm, at 3s 7d to 3s 8d; nob much offering. Maize wanted, at 4s 9d to 4s lOd. There is still a good demand for kerosene ; holders are demanding full prices, at last week’s quotations. The New Zealand flax rope has been tarred and tested, and is coming into favor. Sales L43to L 56. Flax is worth LIG to L2l ; no buyers. New Zealand wheat from 5s Gd to 5s 7d. Macldin Brewer has been remanded on throe different charges of forgery Bail, first time, was obtained at two LSO, on being rearrested the bail was fixed at LJOOO each.

Mr Wrixon (Solicitor-General) and Mr Hannah have been returned unopposed ; for the remaining thirty-live seats 112 candidates have been nominated. Professor Parker, the well-known swordsman, was killed in Melbourne by a fall from his horse, which bolted with him.

The schooner Colonist has been floated off Elizabeth Reef, and arrived here bringing the wreck from the barque Douglas.
