Taranaki, on her return excursion trip arrived from Northern Ports yesterday forenoon. Capt. Wheeler reports passing a full rigged running southwards last night when off Banks Peninsula. Should the ship he hound to this port her arrival at the Heads may be hourly expected. The s.s. Beautiful Star from Lyttelton and intermediate ports arrived tins morning and was placed alongside the ship City of Dunedin to discharge a shipment of 240 hales of wool and 30 tons of preserved meats from The 8.8. Tararua from Lyttelton and intermediate ports, arrived early this morning and sails this evening; fpr Melbourne via Bluff with English mails on board. The ship Warrior Queen was expected to discbarge:tfae of outward cargo to-day, and has how upwards of 100 bales of wool onboard. The ship Christian is fast filling up, having now on board 3100 bales of wool, 130 tons preserved meats, 90 tons wheat, and 20 tons of tallow. * The ship City of Dunedin has now on board 2,200 bales of wool, 140 tons of wheat, and 80 tons preserved meats. In our Victorian telegrams received by the Alhambra it is mentioned that the Insurance Companies were writing off the claims of the ship City of tons, which left London on Aug. 19fch. The following is the award of the court of enquiry into the cause of the wreck of the Airedale The loss .of the s.s. Airedale was the result of natural causes, and is not in any way to be attributed to neglect, or carelessness, or incompetence on the part of her captain or any of his officers. We are further satisfied that when the accident had happened, everything was done that could be done to securejthe safety of the passengers, and preserve, as far as possible the cargo. We shall take care to report to the Government the praiseworthy conduct, in this respect, of the officers and crew. We have great pleasure in returning the certificates that have been handed in to us, and we can assure Captain Kennedy in particular, that Ids honored anil Respected name and character will not, and cannot in the least degree, be affected by the misfortune, the cause of which we have this day investigated.
