A large public meeting was held here on Thursday evening- to protest against Messrs Greig and Turnbull being allowed to take up ie i l ' l )re " eiuptive right where it lias been marked out, as it would close access to the greater portion of the remaining agricultural land. A resolution was adopted declaring that in the opinion of the meeting any delay in opening up agricultural land is disastrous to the prosperity of the Dun skip, district A committee was formed to collect subscriptions to secure legal assistance, with a view of objecting to the granting .of Messrs Greig and. Turnbull's lease.

A petition has been lodged to-day against the return of Messrs Hunter and Pearce. Nelson, March 10. Sir David Monro hied ah affidavit to-day, and applied for a rule nisi for criminal proceedings against the Colonic for libel. The returning officer at Motueka has been served with a notice'of petition against Sir David Monro’s election.
