The first of the Provincial elections in this part of the Province toojc place at Riverton yesterday, where lj!v T, Daniel defeated Mr MUUlivray. The Tairoa arrived here to-day from Dunedin.
Christchurch, March 9
Richard Ray, for larceny, was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment ; John De Leon, fpr indecent assault, four years’ penal servitude. Crocket, charged with obtaining money under false pretences, was acquitted. Mr Cracroft Wilson, G. R, has been elected for Heathcoto in the Provincial Council.
