The C'lutha Railway. —Mr W. W. Blaiir, the engineer for this work, has been instructed by the Minister for Public Works (Mr Gisborne) to accept the lowest tender, and the work will be commenced immediately the contract is drawn up and signed, which will be done in about ten days. To-morrow forenoon he will reach Milton, where he will be presented with addresses, and be entertained at a public dejeuner. It is not unlikely that he will visit the races there ; in which case he cannot be expected ,to arrive in Dunedin until late at night. His Excellency, during his stay in Dunedin, will be the guest of Mr 0. T. Biss. Spouting. —Mr Moffat, the wealthy Victorian squatter, who is at present ou a trip to the old country, is in treaty with Mr Blenktron, the famous English studmaster, for Gladiateur, the greatest horse of modern times. The University of Otago,—--The Evangelist states that a Victorian, Mr Balsillie, who went to the old country for his education, stood second on the list for the chair of Moral aud Mental Science He has since been appointed assistant to Professor Calderwocd of Edinburgh University.
