(FROM GREVILLE’s TELEGRAM COMPANY, REUTER’S AGENTS.) Thames via Taukanoa, February 21. A week’s crushing of 80 tons, including two tons of specimens, froin the Caledonian claim yielded 7779 ounces. The bush fire was very destructive and did immense damage. Several thousand tons of firewood and timber cut for mining purposes were burnt. There was a narrow escape of three crushing mills. One was destroyed by a falling tree. A man was drowned in the Thames. He rolled oft’ the deck of a cutter while asleep. The body has not been recovered. There has been a slight decline in the share market. Tauhanga, February 22. The King’s delegate reports that the Ohinemuri mail lias been decreed to lie stopped. The Natives here are indignant at the King’s interference. Mr Commissioner Clarke and the contractor start to-day, and arc supported by the friendlies. There is great excitement.
