Invercargill, February 17. The railway fracas resulted in an information being laid against the engineers for taking forcible possession, and the defendants have been committed for trial at the ensuing session of the Supreme Court. To-day the information laid by the engineers against the contractors, for wilfully damaging the line, was heard, and the defendants were committed for trial. All parties were liberated on hail. The contractors have taken possession of the line, and have taken up the rails in different places, and sheds for the men in possession have been erected on the line.

The Snperintendental election is causing intense excitement. Mr Macandrew’s committee has been largely augmented, and sub-committees have been appointed at each polling-place in the Province. Their exertions are untiring. The only move yet made in favor of Mr Reid is a placard. Mr Macandrew is likely to poll 90 per cent, of the Southland votes. Auckland via Tauranga, February 17. Mr M'Leocl lias been returned for the Bay of Islands by a majority of (M over Mr Carleton. Arrived Success, from Norfolk Island, and Wallaby and St. Kilda, at Manukau, from the South.
