THE DRIVER-TREWEEK LETTER.

[We are not responsible for the opinions expressed by our correspondents.]

To the Editor of the Evening Star. Sm,—The impropriety and unfairness of commenting on any case while pending be* fore the tribunals of justice is so manifest, that all unp;ejudiced persons will, I am sure, fee that • should not - nor, with deference to you, should the Star —comment on the ca-e driver v. Dick and M'Leod. As a correspondent of yours, “ AntiSophistry,” has asked me for explanations, pc;mit me to say that, so far as the printers are concerned, express instructions were given to Mr Dick, at the outset of the Superintendental contest, to print nothing for Reid’s Committee without my sanction previously given (and this Mr Dick readily adm ts. If the order be entered in the print rs’ hooks “to the account of Mr Reid’s Goumittee,” and the printing be charged to the Committee, my answer is simply that Messrs Mills, Lick, and Co. have made a serious mistake, as they will find whou the settling day comes. I could easily explain the cause of the six days’ de’ay cm my part, Irat no temporary personal gratification would induco iqe tq endanger the position of a possibly innocent man. I am, &c., Basil Sievwkight. Dunedin, February 15.
