MATAURA ELECTION.

Bluff, February 11. The following is the result of the polling at (Jampbelltown for the Mataura district : Dillon Bell 27 Kinross ... ... 0 Denistoun ... ... 3 Thames via Tauranga, February 9. The election for the Thames lias resulted in the return of Mr O'Neill. At the Thames Mr Swan polled 498 votes and Mr O'Neill 402 ; but the Tapu and Coromandel returns made a majority of 171 for O'Neill. The result of the Waitemata election is a majority of 124 for Henderson. The Caledonian Company is crushing one ton of specimens to-day, Sullivan, a miner, at Tapu, had his neck crushed by a falling log His recovery is doubtful. Two men named Connor andßrownly were injured by an accidental explosion. Ohinemuri advices state that Te Hira has finally consented to tho overland mail. Auckland via Tauranga, February 9. Arrived. Invercargill, February 11. Mv Dillon Bell was well received at Lower Mataura. A vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Meuzies and seconded by Mr Squires, The doctor stated he was not politically opposed to Mr Bell, but felt piqued that lie had not announced his intention of coming forward earlier. The feelling is not so strong for Mr Reid at Mataura as his supporters imagine.
