Mr Macandrew’s meeting last night, in the Volunteer Drill Shed was a great and undoubted success. His speech lasted two hours, and completely changed preconceived notions. A vote of thanks was passed, the only dissentients being some half-dozen rowdies, Cromwell, February 10. Mr Reid addressed a large meeting last night. One hundred persons were present. His speech and the questions lasted three hours. A vote of thanks was proposed. For an amendment proposing confidence' in him, fourteen voted for and fourteen against. At the election Mr Macandrew will poll a good majority. Invercargill, February 10, The railway engineer and assistants were charged to-day before; the Resident Magistrate with forcible entry on the Win ton lino. The case was adjourned to Monday. The defendants were liberated on their own recognisances. The poll for Mataura takes place tomorrow. It is creating great interest. The Tairoa, for Dunedin, was detained by the high wind. She sailed this morning. Auckland via Thames, February 8. Arrived.—Queen Bee, from London, with sixty passengers ; Phccbe and Emerald, from Lyttelton. At the East Coast election, Messrs Mackay, Skeet, and Kelly were nominated. The show of hands was in favor of Mr Skeet. A poll was demanded. At the inquest to day to investigate the burning of the kerosene store, a verdict of incendiarism against persons unknown was returned. Five thousand rations were issued to destitute persons during the last month. Auckland via Tauhanga, February 8.
