MR. REID IN THE COUNTRY.
To the Editor qf the E}vq\big Sigr, Sib,—You have no doubt noticed the tone of your contemporary, the Tuapeka Thunderer {Tuapeka Times) with reference to Mr Macaudrew's conduct during his term of office as Superintendant of this Province, Now. sir, in this distript the editor of this petulant journal, is so well known and bis reputation so widely spread that Ms censure of an opponent is more likely to have a beneficial effect than otherwise. 1 would Instance bis report of Mr Reid’s meeting at Wetherstono’s. The Tuapeka Times says, during the delivery ■ f Mr Reid’s speech, he was frequently applauded. Now this- so-palled applause. I may remark, emanated from very few of the Wetlierstoue’s people, but from Mr Reid’s body guard, the “ who were scouring the country with him, and have left no stone unturned to acconu
plish their purpose. You will no doubt be surprised to hear from the same source that a committee has been formed here to secure Mr Reid’s return as Superintendent, while the fact is that such committee is composed of some of Mr Macandrevv’s staunchest supporter’s, in fact members of Macandrew’s committee. Yours, &c,, Observer. Jan. 22nd, 1871.
