There was a full meeting of the electors, agd the several candidates gave long speeches and were fully questioned. Mr W. H. Cutten was proposed by Mr L. Gillies and seconded by Mr- v Jafncs Scott. Mr William Black was proposed by Mr Benjamin Dawson and seconded by Mr James Blues. Mr W. A. Murray was proposed by Mr D. M‘Master and seconded by Mr Peter Cuiininghame. Mr W. J. Dyer was proposed by Mr Edward Martin and seconded by Mr James Dickson. The show of hands was—Dyer, 9; Cutten, 8 ; Murray, 3 ; Black, 2. The poll takes place on Saturday.

INTERPROVINCTAL CRICKET MATCH.
Majority for M‘Lean —4. i Mr M'Lean was declared duly elected. Tauuanga, January 23. Everything here is quiet. The deputation to the King at Tongamutu has not returned. The Hon. Mr M'Lean left Maketu on Friday for Opotiki, and is expected to-day. His interview with the Arawa Natives was firm, but successful. Mr Hamlin, R.M., has been successful in quieting the Arawas. The steamer Samson has been laid up by order of the Melbourne owners.
Christchurch, January 23, The Interprovincial Cricket Match began shortly before noon. Canterbury won the toss. Collinson slipped his knee-cap, but he goes in again first after luncheon, for which they have adjourned for half an hour. The betting is in favor of Otago. 4.40 p.m. Otago’s first innings, 131.
