The unemployed last night presented their petition to the Provincial Council. The Council hastily passed the Kaipara Railway Bill, for the purpose of providing work.
The Governor loaves to-morrow in the Virago for Wellington, He will touch at several Native settlements on the East Coast. Commodore Stirling takes the Governor in the Clio to Milford Sound, thence to Martin’s Bay and the other inlets on the southwestern C Aast vOf the M i( Wle_ Island, and afterwards the Olio takes tilO Governor to the Bluff’ and Dunedin,
whence they intend visiting Lake Wakatip, the Goldfields, and the interior of the Provinces of Otago and Canterbury, proceeding also to Hokitika and the interior of Westland. The tour will occupy two months. In April or May Lady Bowen removes to the new Government House, Wellington.

The General Government Gazette republishes the regulation to all members of the Civil Service not to take any part in political affairs otherwise than by recording their votes ; and it is notified that any violation of this order will bo punished. Messrs Hunter and Pearce addressed the electors last night, and were well received. They cordially supported the Government policy.
The Hon. Mr Gisborne has been elected for Egmont, and Mr F. A. Carrington for Grey and Bell.
