(from giieville’s telegram company, ueliter’s agents.) Wellington, .January 1. A telegram has been received from Mr Richmond, stating that he will stand for Wellington. The Government have received later telegrams, still further contradicting the reported massacre at the Waikato. The City members address their constituents on Tuesday first. Lawrence, January 1. A large and influential meeting was held here last night. Residents from outlying districts were in great force. Resolutions supporting Mr Reid in his candidature for the Superiutendency were carried unanimously. Invercargill, January 4. The weather during the New Year holidays was delightful. The amusements comprised Caledonian games, horticultural shows, and a regatta at the Bluff. All were successful. Mr Kinross addressed the electors of the Waihopai district as a candidate for the Provincial Council. He also seeks to represent Mataura in the General Assembly. He supports Mr Reid in regard to his Provincial action in reference to the Colonial scheme, and generally agrees \vith him in Provincial affairs. About thirty persons were present. A motion [m his favor
was passed ; but the meeting was not enthusiastic. Merchants here complain that no official notice was received by the Postmaster at Switzers of the outward mail there; consequently great inconvenience and delay are caused in the transmission of letters. The Tairoa sailed from Invercargill to Dunedin this morning. This Province’s representatives in the approaching contest for the Colonial Prize Firing arc—Sergeant Thomson, Invercargill, 45 ; Sergeant Brown, 40 ; Volunteer Craigie, 40 ; Sergeant Robinson, Riverton, 40.
