MAYOR’S COURT.
Tins Day. (Before his Worship the Mayor and E. B. Cargill, Esq., J.P.) NEGLECTED CHILDREN*. James Grant, aged eight and a half years, and John Grant, aged three years, were charged with being neglected children From the evidence of the police it appeared that the father of the chidren was unable to look after them, being of intemperate habits, and the mother -was insane. The older boy associated with children of bad character, and a few days ago had stolen property from the residence of Mr Pries, of the Bank of New Zealand. They were sent to the Industrial School for seven years. A DRUNKEN FRIUK. Walter Thomson, a seaman belonging to the Grace Gibson, wag charged with having attempted to commit suicide, The accused was Q.i board the Golden Age last evening, and when the steamer was between the islands he jumped overboard. A line was thrown over to him, which he held until a boat from the steamer picked him up. He was drunk at the time. He was remanded until Friday, to allow of tho captain of the ship being communicated with. nOUHE RHKAKING AND ASSAULT. Wiliam Day was charged on suspicion with having, on the Ist inat., broken into the store of Mrs Dale, Blueskin road, and assaulted her. He was remanded until Saturday, to allow of the attendance of the complainant. MINOR OFFENCES. A charge preferred against Duncan Muirhead, of cruelly ill-treating a horse, by using it in Its car while it had a bad shoulder, was dismissed with a caution. The case against Frederick Luhning was dism : sscd, the nuisance complained of having been abated.
