BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.

ARRIVED, "Wellington : 31st Deo, 12.15 a.m, Gothenburg from Nelson. Lyttelton: 31st Dec, 5.30 a.m, Taranaki from Dunedin, Nelson : 31st Dec, 11.20 a.m, Gothenburg Wellington. We are credibly informed that the barque Indus, recently owned by Messrs Hutcheson and Co, of Dunedin, was yesterday purchased by private contract from the agents of the Bank of New South Wales by Captain C. Clark of Port Chalmers ; this purchase forming one of other additions recently made to the shipping of the Port by that enterprising gentleman. The schooner Alice from Waikouaiti with 50 bales wool, and the Caledonia from Havelook arrived last evening. The s.s. Tairoa sailed for southern ports last evening. Tho p.s. Wallace for Oamaru and the cutter Planet for Waikava sailed yesterday. The s.s, Taranaki from the north sailed a few hours after arrival for the usual northern ports of call. We understand that the last of the wool cargo of the ship J. N. Fleming was stowed yesterday. The J. N. Fleming will probably sail for London about the middle of next week, and is the first ship loaded this season.

The s.s. Phoebe from the Bluff arrived this morning at 8.30.
