MAILS CLOSE— Per a.s. Plicobe, on Sunday, the Ist Janas under:— For the Northern Provinces of New Zealand. America, West Indies, &c., the Continent of Europe, and the United Kingdom, via San Francisco, at 1 p.m. For late letters with late fees as under at 1.30 a.m. „ , . For Northern Ports of New Zealand, id per letter. For the United Kingdom, fid per letter. For all other places one additional single rate per letter For issue of money orders and posting of registered letters at 5 p.m. on Saturday, the 31st instant, N.B. —Postage stamps will he sold at this office on Sunday next, only between the hours of 12.30 and 1.30 p.m. For Oamaru, per p.s. Wallace, on Tucsday, 3rd Jan., at 9.30 a.m. NOTICE. (Extract from Government Gazette., No. /3, Dec. 22, 1870.) "In consequence of the increasing difficulties which attend the transmission through France of overland mails addressed via Marseilles, the Postmaster-General of London has determined on sending mails so addressed, until further notice, via Brindisi, Brenner, Prussia, and Belgium. "The rates of postage to be charged in New Zealand on correspondence for the United Kingdom via Marseilles or Brindisi, will therefore bo as follows : LETTERS Not exceeding 4oz, Is 3d Exceeding £oz, and not exceeding loz, 2s fid Exceeding loz, and not exceeding 1 loz, 3s 90" And so on, Is 3d for every additional .joz or fraction of Newspapers under 4oz each, 4d BOOK AND PATTERN PARCELS. Not exceeding 1 oz, 2d Exceeding 1 oz, and not exceeding 2 oz, 4d Exceeding 2 oz, and not exceeding 4 oz, 7d Exceeding 4 oz, and not exceeding 8 oz, !s 2d And so on, at the rate of Is 2d per A-lb.
