MAYOR’S COURT.
This Day, (Before his Worship the Mayor, and J. Brown, Esq., J, P.) DRUNKENNESS. Elizabeth Wilson was fined 40s, or seven days’ imprisonment; and 40s, or fourteen days, for using obscene language, ALLEGED ARSON. James M'Murtrie was charged with having, at North Taieri, on the 24th irst., maliciously set firo to a dwelling-house, the property of one Jane M'Murtrio. On the application of the Commissioner of Police, he was remanded for a week. CHARITY REWARDED. Richard Williams was charged with stealing a quantity of neatsfoot oil from the promises of William Duncan, Pine Hill. It appeared that the prisoner was in the service of ■ the prosecutor recently, the latter having found him “ hard up,” and gave him employment. The clay after he was discharged, he missed the oil. On Monday, prisoner went to Mr Scott, livery stable keeper, George street, and sold the oil for Ills. Mr Scott denied that bo was drunk, as stated by him. He was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment.
