On the passage from this port to the Bluff an accident to the pin of the shaft occurred, causing a delay of about three days. The opportune arrival of the Tairoa at Martin’s Bay with provisions, &e., was a great boon to the settlers as considerable inconvenience had been for some time felt from a scarcity of necessary supplies. No greater argument needs to be used for regular communication with the settlement. Great privations must have been experienced by the settlers.
