THE REPRESENTATION.
To the Editor of the Emmiuj Star. Sin—Gao yim wonder at the office of a representative of the people being disregarded by anyone who has the least respect for himself, when language such -as was used by the bon. member for Port Chalmers, considering his position, to a brother member who represents the North Harbor district, is tolerated. Not content with alluding to the hon. member as something less than a horse, he. by a letter which appeared in your issue of Friday last, when speaking of Mr M'Dermid as the Mayor of Port Chalmers, describes him as similar to a monkey with a hot potatoe ; and bear in mind this hon. member is on the magisterial roll for the Colony. Speaking of a brother J. P., I am glad to see the dignified attitude of Mr M'Dcrmid in allowing the insult to pass without notice. I should not have penned these few lines only I consider it to bo the duty of every citizen to uphold the dignity of the civic chair. But perhaps the hon. member being indisposed took some physic without the advice of his regular medical attendant; and trusting the political pills avill havo no serious effect on him hereafter, I am, &c., Vox Porum.
