On the second reading of the Appropriation Bill the Government were defeated by a majority of four, Mr Hurst, the mover of the amendment, expressing the dissatisfaction of the Council with the Estimates. The Executive resigned yesterday and Mr Hurst was sent for. The probable Executive are Messrs Sheehan, Lusk, Mitchell, and Hurst (without office). A meeting was held yesterday to discuss the question of encouraging local industries and passing a resolution in favor of a petition to the Assembly to impose an income and property tax. The names of Mr Todd’s murderers are Patoa, Naru, Te Rangitira, and a woman named Hene, of the settlement of Haukoro. There has been another alarm at Tauranga in consequence of the reported proximity of Te Kooti. Southern wheat, ss. ' LATEST AVAR INTELLIGENCE. The French Consul at Sydney received intelligence from London, dated the afternoon of the 2nd of November, which speaks of a fearful bombardment of Paris. Half of the city is in ruins, but the surrounding forts are still holding out.
