GENERAL'ROAD BOARD.
The General Road Board met at the Provincial Buildings to-day, at eleven o’clock. Present :—His Honor the Superintendent, Messrs Duncan and Mouat. From Broad Bay district objections were made to a differential rate in one of the three wards—two being assessed at Is, and the other at Gd an acre. It was referred to the District Road Board. Mr Logie’s application, to have a road constructed giving access to his property, was referred to the favorable consideration of the T Hstrict Board at Sandymount. Mr Mitchell’s application for uniting the Hawkcsbury Bush and ('ranbourne road districts, was referred to the local Boards. The road inspector was instructed to examine into the ground of the application of Mr R. Inglis, Highcliff, and to report. The road inspect u- was instructed to examine the roa l line in the Anderson’s Bay district pointed out by Mr Braid—the alteration proposed by the Board to be referred to the Provincial Solicitor as to its legality, and sanctioned on condition of the recommendations of the Commissioners being carried out. The Walton School Committee asked that a road some time back resolved to be closed should be continued open, to give access to the school, as Mr Dickenson, the teacher, had prohibited the children going to it through his paddock. Leave was granted. Appointments were sanctioned at Wairapa and Merton. 'i’hc application to appoint a clerk and collector at Totara was postponed, subject to the decision of the Board as to the desirability of the two offices being held by the same person. Mr Moore’s application for perm'ssiou to close several road lines in Shag Valley, was referred to the engineer for report, A representation from North-Bast Harbor, complaining that the conditions on which the • rate was levied were not being complied with by the local Board, w « referred to that Board for consideration. An application from Kiako to alter the boundaries of the local road di-trict was sanctioned on condition of the Hoards interested agreeing to it. The following rates were sanctioned : - Akatoro, .‘ld per acre ; Anderson’s Bay, 4d in tile pound ; Charlton, Bid in the pound ; Pomahaka, Is in the pound ; Copmanhurst, 3d per acre. The iload Surveyor was directed to repoit on the application of the Local Board, Blueskin, to alter the road. The proposal to alter the road at Pine Hill by taking it through part of Mr Duncan’s
property was sanctioned; Mr Duncan to receive compensation at the rate of LlO per half-acre. Special rates were asked, for Helensbrook, Gd per acre ; Waikari, Gd per acre ; West Taieri, Gd per acre ; and Milbourn, Gd P er acre. It was resolved that the question be considered at a special meeting whether these rates were to be supplemented or not by the Government subsidy.
