The Evening Star SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 1870.

Crowded Out.—ln order to make room for our report of Mr Macassey’s meeting last night, we are compelled to hold oyer some items of local interest, together with several letters.

Masonic Hall.—We would remind our readers that the Gourlay family open at the Masonic Hall this evening, in an interesting and novel entertainment. The Oamaru Dock.—The Government has sanctioned the expenditure of L20,0U0 on the dock works, provided the times of payment are made satisfactory to them by the contractors. It is stated that Messrs Peyman and Walkem are willing to meet the Government in a fair and reasonable spirit.

Princess Theatre. —“ East Lynne ” and “ Valct-de-Sham ” were repeated last evening to a good house. As might have been expected from the eminent ability of Miss Bowring and Miss Carry George, both of whom appeared last evening, a dramatic treat of no mean order was afforded. Miss Bowring achieved a brilliant triumph in her great impersonation of Lady Isabel and Madame Vine; whilst Miss Carry George, as Miss Marchmont, in the second piece, played her part in her usually admirable manner, and drew down the unanimous plaudits of the house. This evening we notice that the tragedy of “Macbeth” will be produced, in which Mrs Steele will play Lady Macbeth and Mr Steele as Macbeth. We may therefore expect a crowded house.

The fortnightly meeting of the Commercial Building and Mutual Investment Society for receiving subscriptions, &c., will be held on Monday evening between 0 and 8 o’clock. r The Rev. Robert Scrimgeour will preach in St. Andrew’s Church, Melville Street, to-morrow morning and evening, at the usual hours.
