At the criminal sitting to-day Mrs Needham was sentenced to two years imprisonment for attempting to pass a forged cheque. The civil cases commence to-morrow.

Naimku, November 22. No bodies have yet been recovered from the boat accident on Smulav.
At -1 p.m yesterday four prisoners belonging to the hard labor gang overpowered and escaped from their keepers, crossing the harbor in a boat. One who was in irons has since been recaptured, Ilis name is Williams. He was imprisoned for horse stealing and prison breaking. Hammond, convicted of rape a few days since, and the others have not yet been found.

Alexander, the Kaiapoi postmaster, has been committed for trial, but liberated on bail, himself in a surety of L3OO and two suritios of LlnO each.
The Superintendent, last night, intimated his concurrence with Mr Wil-
liains’s resolution. The Council passed a motion to submit the Bank of New Zealand chums to arbitration, adding that it would not be responsible for any expenses incurred in legal proceedings without its concurrence.
Another Government crisis has ocenryed. Mr Cowlishaw, speaking in opposition to the Executive, stated ho hud received certain written informations from the Superintendent, which ho (Mr Cowlishaw) would use against the Executive in the House. The Hon. Air IT ail moved the adjournment of the House, in order to giro the Executive time to consider what steps it ought to take upon this breach of constitutional practice. A meeting of the Government supporters will be held to-day.
