This Day. (Before liis Worship the Mayo/and W. Brunton, Esq., J.P.) DRUNKENNESS. Henry Gutridgo was lined L 5. PROFANE LANGUAGE. Susan Austin for this offence was fined T 5 er 14 days’ imprisonment. Samuel Evereste did not answer to a charge of a similar nature, preferred against him, and a warrant was ordered to be issued for his apprehension. MINOR OFFENCE. Edward Robinson was charged with having been guilty of conduct calculated to provoke a breach of tho peace. It was co iclusivoly prov d that he had used insuring and profane lan mage, and without the olightest provocation challenged two cabmen to ti ht. His defence was that he was driven to what he had done by the treatment he received at the hands of boys living near him, and to obtain redress from their parents vyas simply impossible, because he was a man of color. One of the witnes es for tlie prosecution stated that it was true that he was much ill-treated. The Bench lined him L 5 or a month’s imprisonment, remarking that it hoys insulted him he had his remedy. He left the dock saying that they had better hang him at once, for he would do something that would cause him to be hung. Thomas Cleary was charged with permitting music and dancing in his licensed house at 12.H0 am. on Sunday morning. He was fined L.5 and costs. OFFENCES AGAINST THE BYE-LAWS. W. C. Hoberts for allowing the chimney of his house to take tiro was lined 2s 6d; George Daniel), was charged with oJ.owing a horse to wander, but being a first otl'enc ■ the ease was dismissed with a caution. John Maclean, Murray, Roberts and Co, and John Gately, were each lined ss, and Jas. Cotton 10s, together with costs in each instance, for a similar offence.
