THE VOLUNTEERS.

Below -we give the scores made in the simultaneous rifie match between the Dunedin Artillery and the 18th Perthshire Rifles, which was shot by both companies on the 27th August last, upon the following conditions, viz. Eight men aside to fire om their respective ranges simultaneously. Distance, 200, 500, aud 600 yards ; seven shots at each ; regulation targets ; position at 200 yards standing, and at 500 and 600 yards any ; Government rifles and ammunition; pull of trigger not less than Gibs. Tbe highest scorers on the part of the Artillery are Fergeant Muir and Corporal Ogilvie with 67 each ; and on the side of the Home Company, Private Stewart with 63. The score of the Pcrtshire men arrived by the mail on AVednesday, tbe 9thinst., and as will be seen, tbe local company are the winners by a majority of 88 points. The following arc the detailed scores :

formerly a member of the home corps, and through whose instrumentality the match was got up, and on the part of the Artillery by Mejor Walker of the Ist Administrative Perthshire Battalion. The Artillery on the 29th October last, also shot a simultaneous match against the Groymouth Rides, upon the following conditions : Ten men a side, five shots at ranges at ranges of 400, 500, and 000 yards; one sighting shot at each range ; any position throughout; and Government rifles and ammunition. Corporal Moss, for the Rifles, 4S ; and Sergeant Muir, on the side .of the Artillery, 48 —were the two highest scorers. The Artillery fired at the Pclichct Bay range, and laboured under the disadvantage of having only eight of their regular team present. Allowing an average to the Artillery for an absent tenth man, the Rifles are the victors by six points. The weather here was very hot, with a light variable wind. Subjoined are the scores :
