Eastliope was on a shooting excursion, and when in the act of tiring his gun the left-hand barrel bur.-t near the brea hj. and a piece about four inches long struck him on the left hand, inflicting a very severe wound on the inside and fleshy part of it. Prince of Wales’s Birthday.—A concert and ball will be held in St, George’s Hall on Wednesday evening, in aid of the funds of St. Patrick’s Brass Band. We understand that the member.? of the band will present themselves for the lirst time in their new uniform, which is at once costly and characteristic, and from the known ability of those who have voluntc red to render aid, we mas fairly anticipate a successful concert. We notice that G. E. Barton, Esq., will occupy the chair. High School.—We understand that the Government has granted Mr Abram’s application for a year's leave of absence, on conditions suggested by him and recommended by the Rector. These conditions arc Ist. 'that Mr Ahran provide a thoroughly efficient substitute to the entire satisfaction of the Education Board, and that he undertake to pay all, if any, expenses connected with the appointment that may have to be incurred i ver and above the amount of salary attached to the office in guts! inn 2nd. That in the event of an cllicicnt substitute being obtained for a less salary than tint attached to the office, the balance shall remain in the hands of the Government to apply as it may deem (it. We may ivmark tint Mr-AI-ram has been cm noted with the High School since its opening in August, ISlifl, having hedd the appointment first of acting Rector, and subsequently of English Master. Princess Theatre. —There was a full bouse on Saturday evening to witness the representation of the highly popular dramas of the “Corsican Brothers” and “Gwynneth Vaughan.” The first piece was admirably played. The tableaux were striking, and called forth the loud applau-.c of the audience. If we say that the pi 'c; was cxcclbntly placed on the stage and that the appointments were in perfect harmony we are simply stating facts with which the new management have happily long familiarise 1 us. The indignant denunciation, when discovered, of the arts used to decoy Hmijiedo Lespare (Miss Carry George) into the house of Marteili, gave scope fora splendid piece of acting, and Miss Carry Geoige was warmly and deservedly applauded. Nor was Mrs Brier less successful in the delineation of the simple minded but noble lady of Corsica, Madame dci Erauchi, and she sustained the part with feeling and effect throughout. Mr Lawrence played the dual part of Fabian and Louis dei Fianchi in a manner that awakened the admiration and won for him the unmis-tak-ablu plaudits of the audience, whilst Mr Collier as M, dc Chateau Remind played his part in his usual painstaking manner and with his usual success. “ Gwynneth Vaughan,” with which the performances concluded, was alike well pub upon the stage and acted in all its parts. Mr Musgrave strikingly pourtrayed the peculiarities of a village pedagogue. The whole piece may be pronounced a great success, the actors being rewarded with loud applause. Tom Taylor’s drama of “The Ticket-of-leave Man” will be presented this evening, and will be followed by the ‘arce of “My Wife’s SecondFloor.”
