RIFLE MATCHES.
Two matches were fired at the North Dunedin butts on Saturday, The Naval Brigade tired off their match with the Greymouth rifles, and the No. 1 Compapy theirs with the Kelso (Scottish) rifles. In both matches the scores were extremely poor—so poor indeed, that defeat in the one instance was expected as a matter of course, and the supposition proves not to have been unfounded ; and in the other a similar result may reasonably be anticipated The day was not regarded as a very favorable one to rifle shooting, the wind being very puffy, and the sun at times much to. strong. In the Naval brigade match, the conditions.were tea men a-sidc, ranges 400, 500, and 600 yard?. The local team scored a grand total of # 346 points, or an average of 34'G ; and their opponents a grand total of 305 points, or an average of 304 points ; the Grey mouth company thus winning by 49 points. In No. I Company’s match, the conditions were—l2 men a-sidc, ranges 200, 500, and COO yards. The results published in the Times being incorrect, both in the total and the average, we subjoin the offi.ial score, viz : o c o o y? % j' or o jo e » o 4 ® » » o,S' c = c us *3 *0 hi 2 S.
