John Galloway, for allowing cattle to wander, was fined 5s and costs; and John Allen 10s and costs, for a similar offence. A DANGEROUS NEIGHBOR. The police made application under the Justices of the Peace Act, that James Kirby might bo bound over to keep the peace. The person complained against is the occupier of the house in Elm row which took fire on Sunday evening last. It was stated by Sergeant Thompson that complaint had been made by the inhabitants in the neighborhood. It appeared from the evidence adduced, that last evening Kirby again made a bonfire of the old rags in his possession, to the imminent danger of the cottage. He stuffed the chimney full with rags, which, when ignited, be tossed about to his own evident pleasure. The neighbors, to prevent any accident, had to sit up and watch him half the night ; and although frequently requested to stop the burning, be would not do so. Once when a neighbor went into his house, be found him with his head against the kettle on the hearth, thoroughly helpless. One witness described Kirby as “a dangerous, silly old man.” He has been twice examined by medical meu, who have declared him to be sane. His Worship said that whilst there could be no question that the man was dangerous, ho had a doubt as to whether he could grant the application. _ He would take unt'l to-morrow to consider it.
