THE HIGH SCHOOL.

To the Editor of the Evening Star

Slß—Being desirous that our excellent educational system may not suffer from tho puerile fears of even an unsophisticated “ Ex High School Boy.” who it appears endeavored to incite the Dunedin matrons against an institution which I am confident will be ultimately a great blessing to the future husbands of Otago, it would appear from your correspondent’s sly insinuations that the gentleman in charge of the works is not competent to erect a paltry fence. Now, .Sir, in order to dispel any doubts that may cxi-st in that way, I would particularly refer to an elaborate piece of mechanical skill, now so Nvcll-knownfor its' usefulness—namely, the Pqqt 0t ce way. I would recommend the most sceptical to have a peep at this novel invention, and I hesitate not to say that they will place- its inventor at the very top of his profession. 1 therefore feel confident that the most fastidious of our worthy matrons will, on due enquiry, dispel any unnecessary alarms that may linger in their minds respecting the precautions to be taken in order to efficiently secure the enclosures of this literary sanctum. From the well-known skill of its designer, I am sure that not even a classical spider will have sufficient courage to work his geometrical figures on its tabooed walls. In conclusion, 1 hope th.at this institution will Jioiipisb ape} Ijccpino p Jastjng blessing to the future wives apd mqtheli's of qur adopted laqd. I am, &u , A I,PIIA. October, IS, 1870.
