(from oreville’s telegram company, reuter’s agents.) Wellington, October 11. The Canterbury Press of yesterday prints Mr Gisborne’s letter denying that the telegram was taken from the Press Association’s, aud explaining that 'the reason for giving it to the Independent was to oblige an anxious public. The Press throws all the blame on the Otago Daily Times. The public here wonder what the Times proprietors mean to do. Invercargill, October 11. The first season of the Mussel Beach whaling expedition has closed. The party have returned to Riverton. They have had no success. Operations will be resumed early next season. A meeting has been held at Riverton to arrange for the reception of the Superintendent. An influential Committee was appointed, . A similar meeting will be held at Invercargill tonight. The Superintendent is expected by the first steamer.
