GENERAL ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of the General Hoad Hoard was held at noon yesterday. The fodowing rates were sanctioned : Merton, dd in the £ -special rate refused; Hampden, Od in the £ ; Wilburn, Od ; West Taieri, Od ; Allday, 4d per acre; Caversham, Is ; Tuakatoti, Is in the £ ; Signal lijil, Od per acre; Kniiehl, 10d in the £ ; Clydssvaie, (id pc’* acre ; Hcaconslield, 4d ; Warn era, Is in the £; North MoJ.yncux, 8(1 in the £ : I nch Clutha, Od; Windsor, -id ; Waihola West, dd per acre ; Pnkauri, dd ; lloslyn. Dd in the £ ; North hast Marhor, Is per acre ; Tomahawk, Is ; Thigstati', Od ; ap l (Jlia 1 grove, dd. 'ldle rates <u the following places were sanctioned in accordance with the Commissioners' report : lotaia, Te Hooka, North Taieri, Waj'liari, Herbert, gud Sandymoxmt. The rales proposed at llhjo Mountain, Meadow Bank, Bushoy. and Chalinnt, were refused sanction unless lovied on the annual value of the property. The proposed rate at Blueskin was recommended to be reduced from Od to 3d on the
report of the Commissioners, which done it would he sanctioned. The x*ate of 3d per acre at Mont Boyal was sanctioned, on condition that a fair pi’oportion of the rates be expended, when levied, on the road at Shag Point. Mr Semple applied to have his land included iu the Blucskhx district. The application of Messrs Baird, Patterson, Beattie, and Swanstoxx to have their property taken out of Deborah district, and included in Purakanui district, were referi'ed to the respective Boards for report. A memorial fi’onx Hampden, ashing permission to close certain road lines, was presented. They were ordti’cd to be included in the next Roads Diversion (ffdinanco. Certain objection? were lodged against opening up a road through sections 7 and S, block 2, Blueskin road district. Mr Inspector Cairns was instructed to report. T c owners of land at Blueskin and North Hai’hor petitioned to have the country declared a district Board, which was agreed to. The att: ntion of the Board was called to the closing of the road through section 6, block 30, Waihola. 3he Board recommended the Government to introduce at the next of the Council a Compulsory I andTaking Ordinance to compel owners of px-o-perty to open up the road. The question of expenditure of certain moneys in the road district .at Lamhourxxe, was ordered to be referred to the Government.
A petition from I’esidejits in C.xvcrsham was presented to the Board asking that certain local Boards should he pr jcTaimcd district roads. It was referred to the Provincial Solicitor for report. The Kaikor.u Boad Board wrote asking tixat the rates previously levied on the annual value of property might be changed to an aci’eagc rate They were I’cfcrred to the Ordinance under which there is no power to enable the Board to change after rates have been once sanctioned. On the application from Anderson’s Bay road district, with to the road to Mr Braid’s property, the local board were directed to make terms with Mr Stewart, through whose property the road will run. Air Short, Pine Hill, applied for a surveyor to survey a road loading to his property. The application was X’eterrcd to the local Loai'd to be dealt with.
