WASTE LAND BOARD.

This Day. The Waste Land Board met to-day. Present : —The Chief Commissioner, Mr J. T. Thomson (in the chair), Messrs Reid and Hughes. A previous application made by Mr Dimcan was granted. Mr Farlans applied to have the exclusive right to place a punt at Menzies’ ferry, Mataura —fees, &c., to be charged as specified. Letters from Messrs J. and F. C. Fulton, and a letter from Messrs Maitland, were referred to the Government, Mr A. Quertors made application to lease half of section 7, block 30, Clutha district. It was resolved that the land be advertised for sale by auction at the upset price of Ll per acre. Mr J. J. Taine wrote respecting the price of coal to be charged at their pits’ mouth, as fixed by a minute of the last meeting. The Board adhered to their former resolution on the subject. Messrs Burrowed and Eldred applied for a lease of five acres of land situate near Lake Wakatip, for the purpose of limeburning. A lease for twenty-one years was granted, at Ll per acre—survey to be made at applicants’ expense. Mr James Munmell applied to purchase 8 acres of reserve, sec. 1, block 14, Dunedin and East Taieri district. The board had not the power to grant the application, the land being reserved. Messrs Gillies and street, for Mr James Lees, applied to purchase 13 and IG, blocks, Awamoko, at 10s per acre. The application refused, and it was resolved to advertise the laud for one month, as open selection at Ll per acre, at the expiration of that time. In

answer to a question, it was stated that sections offered for sale on the 3rd inst., at LI per acre, which had not been sold upon application, would he sold like ordinary land. Messrs Connell and Moodic applied for an agricultural lease of sections 6, 29, 28, 30, 34, and 45, block 3, Tuapeka, West, and under clause 7 of the Otago Hundreds Regulation Act, 1809, Amendment Act, 1870. The Board deferred their decision on the application. Applications to purchase sec. 72 and 73, block 2, and fcc. 12, block 1, Tuapeka district, held under agricultural leases, were granted.
