Tins Hay. (Before his Worship the Mayor, and John Gillies, Esq., PuM ) THEFT. John Flanagan, alias George Mahony, alias George Mulvaucy, alias George Parker, was charged with stealing 371 ha. of tobacco, va’ucd at LG 10s, from the premises of Messrs Hogg and Hutton, in Princes street. Detective Farrell deposed to having found upon the prisoner yesterday some tobacco, which had been identified by Messrs Hogg and Hatton as tbeir property. He asked for a remand, in order that he might be able to trace the rest of the missing property.' The pi Loner was accordingly remanded until 11 o'clock to-morrow, ! OFFENCES ACAINST THE BYE-LAWS. John Walsh, charged with allowing two bead of cattle to wander in Albert street, was fined 10s and o ists, and for allowing a c iw to wander in Cargill street, 5s and costs. John Fletcher, for allowing three cows to be loose and unattended in Melville street, was lined IDs ai d costs. Charles M‘Canl, a biy, was charged, on the information of the Town Pelt Hanger, with cutting trees on the Town Belt. The defendant, on being interrogated as to who sent him to out the trees, replied that lie saw other peop'o cutting them and therefore thought he had a right to do so too. The Bench intimated their intention to nut a stop to this practice, which arose childly from the faults of parents. I* was monstrous that the trees should be destroyed in such a manner. Forbes, also charged on the information of the ranger with cutting down a tree, pleaded guilty, but stated that his reosm for cutting the tree down was that he mistook where the tree stood for part of a section opposite Eden street, but w<as unable to say to whom he supposed the section belonged. He was lined 5s and costs, with a caution that a second offence would be more severely dealt with.
