William Wheeler, a lad about n-'neteen years old, was charged with using abusive language, and resisting Constable Bain while in the execution of his duty. On Friday night the prisoner and a number of lads congregated about the North Dunedin Drill Shed, and during the progress of the concert being he'd there, amused themselves by alternately throwing stones on the roof and indulging in language of anything but a refined kind. Remonstrance had not the desired effect, and Mr Bain’s services being called into requisition, he arrested Wheeler, who however managed to escape from his clutches. Bain pursued him, but the lad being the fleeter footed of the two, and assailing him with stones, he had to give up the contest. The Bench considered both charges proved, and fined the prisoner on each 40s, or a week’s imprisonment—the sentences io be cumulative.
